Virginia Democratic Representative Jennifer Wexton to Retire for Health Reasons, Diagnosed with Fatal Neurological Disorder
Democratic Representative Jennifer Wexton of Virginia has announced that she will not seek reelection for a fourth term due to health challenges. Wexton has been diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy, a rare and fatal neurological disorder. This comes after she disclosed in April that she also has Parkinson's disease. The diagnosis has led Wexton to make the decision to step down from her position. Unfortunately, there is currently no effective treatment for progressive supranuclear palsy. Wexton's announcement makes her the latest lawmaker to reveal their plans for the 2024 campaign cycle in a closely divided House.
